On November 28 a little group of statesmen and one soldier faced death like gentlemen in Athens, Greece. The men thus to die were Demetrios Gounaris, three times Premier of Greece, six times Minister and chief of the Popular Party of Greece; Nicholas Stratos, a former Premier and Minister, leader of the Reformist Party; Petros Protopapadakis, former Premier and several times Minister of Finance; George Baltadjis, former Minister for Foreign Affairs; Nicholas Theotokis, former Greek Minister in Berlin; and George Hadjianestis, a brigadier general. The men who accused, indicted, convicted, sentenced, and executed these Greek leaders were a little band of Greek army officers, ranking from colonel down, all recently returned from the rout of Asia Minor and forming a self-appointed revolutionary committee.
