The article discusses the book "The Maritime History of Massachusetts 1783-1860," by Samuel Eliot Morison. Without the glamour of kings and queens, there are occasions when history is romance. Morison's volume is a record of commercial enterprise. It reads like a novel; it tells a human tale of heroism and adventure, of stirring times and tremendous efforts, in days when the foundations of a nation were building. The rush of events, seen in their true bearing, gives his work that narrative quality which all history ought to possess.
