The article focuses on the book "The Smells of a Great City." Stanley Alden of North Pownal, Vermont, has already sent in his contribution for the book. He says that it is apparent that the writer of the book has followed his nose to signal advantage in New York City, he has yet to smell some of Boston's best offerings. Sniffing about the hide streets may be good fun, but has he never discovered Long Wharf, or Salem Street of a Saturday night? Is he unfamiliar with the Cambridge rooming-house odor that every September welcomes back to Oxford Street the returning graduate student; or the clean, oily emanations from classroom and offices of administration that salute students the States over when college reopens in the autumn?
