Next summer, in 1930, the Icelandic Parliament will celebrate its one thousandth anniversary. The Icelandic nation is extending invitations to the celebration to all Western countries. The U.S. has decided to send five delegates, and many individual States of the federal union will be represented. The U.S. government is appropriating $50,000 for a statue of Leifur Eiriksson, of which it is going to make the Icelanders a present on this occasion. Leifur Eiriksson, or Leif the Lucky, the first white man to discover America, in the year 1000, was an Icelander.
