The article presents an overview of the book "Plumes," by Laurence Stallings. Doubtless the author would never have striven so passionately to communicate his personal disillusion had he not hoped to convince others of the futility of war and to do something to make it impossible. But some of the qualities which render the book more effective than most as propaganda also help to raise it to the level of art. Neither Mr. Stallings's style nor his manner is particularly original or distinctive, but they furnish a clear medium by means of which his thought and passion are communicated.
