The article discusses about artificial characters chosen by the playwright Alfred Savoir for his fantastic comedy "The Lion Tamer." Its possibilities have been argued with a wearisome copiousness by enthusiastic theorists. Some years ago the pretentious vacuity of "He Who Gets Slapped" was endured for the sake of its form, and only last season the insignificant merits of "The Chief Thing" were at least seriously weighed for the same reason. Never before, however, in the U.S. at least, have people seen the genre attempted by anyone as technically adroit as Savoir, and it must in fairness be said that no unadulterated exponent of Art has done so much as he to demonstrate its merits.
