The article presents an overview of the book "India," by Sir Valentine Chirol. The book describes Indian culture, philosophy and its social and economic conditions during the British rule. The book justifies the British rule in India. It also presents a detailed criticism of the rule, but finds its necessary for India's salvation. The facts presented in the book reveals the author's misconception about India. It seems that he is not familiar with the intellectual aspects of India's culture, economic development, administrative system, problems of relationship to other parts of the British Empire and with internal antipathies.
