In Wall Street there is a saying that the ticker talks. It does. Most listeners believe that, among other things, the ticker has been talking a great deal about railway mergers. Most certainly there has been a broad basis for ticker conversation of that sort. Few days have been so barren that they have not brought forth a new crop of merger rumors. Some days have even brought the mergers. All of this is important. A railroad merger is consolidation in the process of evolution. And the railway consolidation idea when launched was to be the Moses which would lead the American public out of its transportation wilderness.
