In this article the author presents information related to the book entitled "An Introduction to Economic History." The book is written by N.S.B. Gras. According to the author the book is a sketch of the economic development of mankind in terms of the growth of the market. More than that, it is a sane and reasonable essay in the economic interpretation of history. In place of the traditional classification, the author recognizes five stages in economic growth: collectional, cultural nomadic, settled village, town, and metropolitan economy. The sinful radicalism of the conservative objective historian occasionally peeps out to cheer the reader.
