This article focuses on the book "The Wines of France," by H. Warner Allen. The author of "The Wines of France" has tramped through all the famous grape-growing regions of the country, and he tells the story if their vineyards and the methods of production, enlivened with an abundance of historical background. Some of these vineyards, of course, are almost as priceless as the Garden of Eden. All of the grapes that go into the famous Romanee Conti wine, which has been described as "bottled velvet and satin," are grown on four and a half precious acres in Burgundy which as far back as 1869 changed hands for almost $50,000.
