"Labor in Queensland is a record breaker. Its fourteen years of continued rule established a record unparalleled in any part of the world. And now it has set up another record. It is doubtful if any party ever before sustained a defeat so overwhelming." In these words the "Australian Worker" described the elections of May 11 which turned a Labor majority of fourteen seats into a minority of eighteen. Complete and confident answers cannot be given. No election appears capable of a simple explanation-not even when it is nine thousand miles away; and in this as in others many trivial cross-currents were at work.
