"Gods of the Lightning" the long-promised drama has arrived at the Little Theater. Maxwell Anderson and Harold Hickerson, authors of the piece, have wisely chosen an imaginary analogue rather than the case itself and, thanks, in part, to the freedom which is thus permitted them, they have written one of the most effective dramas of social protest which it has ever been the author's privilege to see. In one sense, "Gods of the Lightning" is straight propaganda. Written out of an intense conviction, it never for a moment forgets that it has a purpose, and it hammers unceasingly at the point which it wishes to enforce; but it is too vigorous and too vivid to suffer from this fact as other propaganda plays seem almost inevitably to do.
