This article presents information on political conditions in the world during 1929. A British white paper issued by the government of Great Britain Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald has deeply stirred the waters of international policy by declaring that as between members of the League Council there can be no neutral rights because there can be no neutrals. Herbert C. Lakin, President of Cuba Co., dropped the law to guide the investments, aggregating $175,000,000, of his company in Cuba. Gradually, under the pressure of the U.S. tariff and a world-wide overproduction of sugar, Lakin found his company facing bankruptcy. Minority rights and reparation obligations have brought political relations between Hungary and the Little Entente to an acute stage, and the Young plan conference is likely to have a serious controversy on its hands when it meets again in January 1930.
