A Composer at Play

The article presents information on the book "Evenings in the Orchestra," by Hector Berlioz. Berlioz would have been pleased had he known that by the year 1929 his literary work would be all but forgotten while his musical compositions would be frequently played by every great orchestra. It was the opinion of Berlioz's that as a composer he was interesting but that as a journalist he was great. That was an opinion which always irked him, yet now that the interest in his orchestration, which once sounded piquant of even grotesque, pales before the skill and audacity of some of the moderns, the resurrection of his literary work may once more help to obscure his music.
