This article focuses on the book "The Twilight of Christianity," by Harry Elmer Barnes. Barnes displays all his virtues and all his defects. He is, on the credit side, immensely industrious in assembling facts, shrewd in discerning their implications, and courageous in stating those implications without evasion. On the debit side he is constantly over-prolix, often repetitious, and not infrequently somewhat vague. His book gives me the impression of having been put together in a hurry. If more time and labor had been expended upon it, it would have been 30 per cent shorter and at least 100 per cent better.
