This article literally appraises the book "Chicago: A History of Its Reputation," by Henry Justin Smith and Lloyd Lewis. At length there is something of a miracle in "Chicago: A History of Its Reputation," a throbbing biography of a city, fascinating as a Dreiser novel, written colorfully and with a fine sense of the dramatic. Neither a eulogy nor an attack, it is a swiftly moving recital of the tremendous events, tragic, humorous, inspiring, and nauseating, that have marked the imperial onward march of a community that have fairly pulsated with dynamic energy from the beginning.
