The article provides information on various novels. "Loose Ladies," by Vina Delmar presents clever little tales of love in the Bronx, and were clearly written to satisfy a post-"Bad Girl" rising market, and are therefore probably not intended to be read with any undue solemnity. Maurice Bedel in his book "Molinoff or the Count in the Kitchen" has shifted the latitude of love from 600 to 45°, and romance, shorn of frost and farce, grows lighter. "The Lady of Laws," by Susanne Trautwein and translated from the German by Herbert E. Palmer and Leslie W. Chancy, is a beautifully written book; but it is not an historical novel. It is a richly designed narrative of Renaissance Bologna in which a saintly-suffering instructress in the law faculty at the University plays the tragic role of a mater dolorosa, a victim of Guelf and Ghibelline corruption.
