The article discusses the book "Plain People," by E.W. Howe. The author of Potato Hill, Atchison, Kansas, has generally been talked of as a sensible man, and indeed has made no other claim for himself during the fifty-odd years of his authorship. Boasting of innumerable limitations, he has settled very comfortably back on his common sense and defied the smart fellows of New York or London, England, to take that distinction from him.
