Standardized mass production on a world scale has made Hollywood the dominating force in the world of cinema. Thanks to Hollywood the making of motion pictures has become an industry, and though we may not rejoice in this fact as much as some of our friends in Russia seem to, we must admit that it is in accord with all modern developments; if we have machine-made and standardized homes, clothes, food, newspapers, and radios. Moreover, Hollywood satisfies a certain social need by providing its entertainment in quantities and qualities which are demanded by the countless numbers of its consumers, and which could not be supplied except by an organized industry.
