This article literally appraises the book "An Anthology of World Poetry," edited by Mark Van Doren. Mr. Can Doren's anthology should be bought, placed beside one's bed, and referred to at leisure, preferably at decent intervals of at least a week. It should be said at once that the volume is nothing of the sort. It is an honest attempt to select the best of the available English translations from some fifteen ancient and modern languages and arrange them in chronological sequence from the Thirty-fifth Century B.C. to the Twentieth Century A.D.
