The article presents information about the book "7 P. M. and Other Poems," by Mark Van Doren. The poetic performance of Doren has been steadily limited, but it is neither unpretentious nor slight. He knows his own mind, accepts certain formal limitations, and refuses to amplify his poems beyond the point where their perceptions would perplex his sense of order. Some of his poems, as a matter of course, are less interesting than others. In all of them, however, he knows definitely what he is doing. This quality alone, of poise, of self-direction, would be enough to set him apart as an anomaly among contemporary poets.
