The article presents information about the book "The Yankee Whaler," by Clifford W. Ashley. It is the most part a faithful, first-hand pictorial and literary record which will undoubtedly take a place among the few authentic books on a once great American industry, the shipping industry. It is fair to the reader, therefore, to point out the writer's tendency toward romanticization. Mr. Ashley is a painter first and a writer secondarily. It is not unnatural that the text should be somewhat less comprehensive and satisfactory than the pictures.
