The article presents news related to political issues in the U.S. New York Governor Alfred E. Smith's annual message contains nothing new or startling, but it is another excellent business statement of a remarkable administrator. In it he reiterates his position on the state's water-power undeterred by the cries of socialism with which his recent outlining of his position at the dinner of the Survey Associates has been greeted. Lynchings for 1926 almost doubled those of 1925 as per the official figures given out by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The association traces this disheartening increase in mob violence to the defeat of the federal anti-lynching bill.
