This article focuses on current developments in the Cuban sugar industry concerning price-fixing and relating laws and legislation. It reports that Cuba hopes to put its sugar industry on a profitable basis by an ambitious and radical price-fixing experiment. It is hoped that, if the scheme succeeds Cuba may gain virtual control of the world's sugar market, more importantly over U.S. market. Cuba has placed the world on a sugar ration basis, restricting not only production, but also the amount of the raw product that may be shipped to any country on earth and most particularly to the United States. Cuba now produces roughly one-fourth of the world's supply of sugar. By considering this stake over international sugar market, a plan to boost prices of Cuban sugar is expected.
