This article presents information on the book "The Saleslady," by Frances R. Donovan. Donovan takes us behind the counter, out on the floor, into the rest room where store employees talk of their jobs and themselves, and in so doing plays havoc with some of the dearest illusions of Hollywood and the short story. To take the place of the downtrodden working girl she introduces an eager, ambitious young business woman at home in the modern world, adapting herself without fuss or sentimentality to its demands-not an unappealing figure, after all.
