This article presents information on the book "Petroleum and Coal: The Keys to the Future," by W.T. Thom Jr. Professor Thom's book deals with the origin, conditions of occurrence, manner of recovery, and use of two important fuels, coal and petroleum. It does hold food for purely abstract thought as well, but the latter is not thrust upon the reader. It is opined that exploration and development of oil fields is largely misunderstood, except in southern California and in Oklahoma and the surrounding region of the mid-continent field.
