This article focuses on the book "The Tall Men. Portrait of a Tennessean, by Donald Davidson. In this book, Mr. Davidson as a poet has directed the force of an inquiring and vigorous mind against this age. And the result is that he has visualized an unsung epic. Unsung, because his people were content to live by brooding on their store of past memories rather than by singing them. The epic began when the Watauga settlers followed Boone's trail across the Blue Ridge and became independent, down to the appropriate conclusion in the battle of Nashville.
