This article focuses on the book "Epoch. The Life of Steele MacKaye, Genius of the Theater, in relation to His Times and Contemporaries," by Percy MacKaye. Theater personality Steele MacKaye was one of those restless and indefatigable projectors who live in a perpetual state of vague elation, who hypnotize their contemporaries by the intransigence of their personalities, and who leave behind them in the records of history little more than a name. Now his son has written a memoir of nearly a thousand pages, and in the course of it filial piety is more conspicuous than a sense of proportion.
