This article focuses on the books "Henry the Eighth," by Fraricis Hackett and "King Henry the Rake," by Clement Wood. The author says that everybody knows that King Henry VIII had a half-dozen wives and an indeterminate number of mistresses. Everybody also knows, after a fashion, that his reign was marked by a terrific outpouring of national energy on a scale hitherto unparelleled in English history. And finally, everybody has seen copies of Holbein's portrait of Henry the huge, bulging beefy face, who ever lineament bespeaks corruption, massive force, and bull-like physical energy, has become part of the inheritance of even' schoolboy and schoolgirl.
