Parity Up or Down?

The joint statement issued by U.S. President Herbert Hoover and British Premier Ramsay MacDonald at the conclusion of their conversations undoubtedly marks a long and gratifying step toward ultimate naval disarmament and enduring peace. The coming conference, if successful, will result in a parity agreement between the U.S. and Great Britain and a large decrease in the naval equipment of the world ending the waste of public money involved. This undoubtedly sounded highly satisfying to both U.S. and British taxpayers. But when it is translated into cold facts, so far as they now are known, it will be found that this parity which is to end all competitive building between them is to be an expensive boon.
