This article focuses on the two musical performance of Monteverdi and Stravinsky "Il Combattitnento di Tancredi e Clorinda" and "Les Noces" as recently presented by the League of Composers in New York. The score calls for four pianos and riotous percussion effects, but under this conductor's superlative direction the orchestration never lost line or descended to even excusable chaos. Russian performers, fortunately, wholly executed the dances themselves. Monteverdi, for two centuries all but forgotten, has of late years, thanks in part to Werner Jostin's efforts, renewed his importance as the far-distant progenitor of the modern music drama.
