The blacklisting business was symptomatic of a much wider conspiracy to intimidate free thought, in which the Daughters of the American Revolutions (DAR) have been mere agents. This conspiracy has been exposed, and is being neutralized; but the National Society, DAR, has still to set its house in order if it is to avoid repetition of mortifying experiences. Though they claim legality for their acts through the votes of delegates to the annual week's congress in Washington, these delegates come from their chapters uninstructed, and in fact quite ignorant of the measures they will be asked to ratify.
