The article discusses about the book "Schumann-Heink: The Last of the Titans," by Mary Lawton. Schumann-Heink is an extraordinary woman and this is an extraordinary narrative-extraordinary in its frankness, its directness, and the moving character of this great singer's story. Ernestine Schumann-Heink began life as the daughter of a lieutenant in the Austrian army, who did not know how to practice birth control. He had a mere pittance on which to live; the result was that Ernestine frequently went hungry.
