The article focuses on four books "Paris Salons, Cafes, Studios," by Sisley Huddleston, "Nights Abroad," by Konrad Bercovici, "Winged Sandals," by Lucien Price, and "Fabulous New Orleans," by Lyle Saxon. Everybody who writes of Paris, France nowadays either revels in its gay new life or regrets the disappearance of the simpler, solider--though not necessarily soberer--city of pre-war years. For one who has lived there long and knows it well the latter mood is almost inescapable. So it is not surprising to find Mr. Huddleston beginning with a chapter on what he calls the "cocktail epoch."
