The article presents information on the book "An Epoch and a Man: Martin Van Buren and His Times," by Denis Tilden Lynch. This book is a biography of the U.S. president, Martin Van Buren. The book presents intrigues and personalities of New York State politics from the time of James Madison, fourth U.S. president, until Van Buren's retirement from the Presidency. The real bigness of Van Buren is almost lost in the detailed story of his minor intrigues. After all, his greatness, such as it was, is found in his national career, and this meant more than mere political management.
