The article presents information on the book "Men and Memories," by William Rothenstein. Upon reading William Rothenstein's first volume of his memoirs it is difficult to think of anything that he has done in terms of failure. Those who knew Rothenstein, and there were many, must have regarded him with particular affection, for he was deferential, urbane, and worldly, with a gift for reciting choice bits of attractive gossip that never quite crossed the border line of malice or indiscretion. Rothenstein's present volume closes, appropriately enough, with the end of the nineteenth century. In the last few chapters another generation slowly emerges from the background.
