The article discusses books and authors. Shmarya Levin's delightful and moving "Childhood in Exile" is the prelude to what promises to be one of the important autobiographies of contemporary times. The second volume "Youth in Revolt," carries on its author's personal fortunes through the eighties and nineties, in and out of high schools and universities, and from Soviet Union to Germany. But it is much more than a personal record. Along with the youthful Levin, one comes to grips with Russian history and Jewish sufferings; one passes through the terrible period of the pogroms; one goes deeply into the whole Jewish question; and makes contact with the social revolutionary forces.
