The article discusses books and authors. "The Two Frontiers," by writer John Gould Fletcher with its richness of prophecy, analogy, fantasy, and sheer nonsense, falls into the class of those generalizations, whose frequent appearance has been an interesting sign of the time. The appealing notion of German philosopher Oswald Spengler that modern man has become a historical animal, his whole attempt at a morphology of civilizations, has encouraged this form of speculation. But for this dangerous new game one needs a generous equipment; one needs a large and curious documentation and intellectual daring enough to stun or enchant the reader, now with paradox and now with brilliant intuitions.
