This article presents information on several books. Some of the books which are being discussed in this article are: "Ambrose Holt and Family," by Susan Glaspell; "A second Elizabethan Journal," by G.B. Harrison; "Easier Motherhood," by Constance Todd and "The Industrial Revolution in the South," by Broadus Mitchell and George S. Mitchell. The book by Mitchell brothers is an admirable answer to the complacency and cruelty of those Southern chambers of commerce which advertise the South as the paradise of contented workers. It is written not by Northern agitators but by Southern economists who love and hate their homeland with the ambivalence of disillusioned native sons. This book contains a series of essays which trace the rise of the cotton-manufacturing industry in the South, the birth of the labor movement, the great strikes at Elizabethton, Marion, and Gastonia, and the reaction of the new economic life upon culture and religion.
