This article presents information on the book "Dawn," by Theodore Dreiser. This book is an autobiography of Theodore Dreiser's early youth. The author opines that Dreiser's phrases are sometimes downright illiterate. Often what ought to be simple narrative sentences are so equivocal that one actually cannot tell what he means. But with this book, Dreiser has expressed other and less dubious virtues which have always given his work its real distinction-- an astonishing memory, amazing eyes for details, for character, and for physical scenes, an immense curiosity and awareness regarding all things of common interest, a profound sense of the wonder and mystery of life.
