The advertising business in the U.S. is worried about the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Last session the U.S. Congress passed the Lea bill, which gave the FTC the power to censor advertising. This had the enthusiastic backing of the ad-men because they had been afraid that censorship would be placed in the hands of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Even in the dismal years just passed, when so many showed a loss as a whole, the advertising departments here and there made money. The money came from selling nationally advertised brands. The stores get a special low rate from newspapers because they use an immense amount of space and because they're good bargainers.
