The article focuses on the book entitled "I Wanted to Be an Actress." The book is written by Katharine Cornell. The book is an autobiography. According to the author, readers for whom brilliance, wit, and illumination of subject matter are the prerequisites of conversation will be disappointed in the book. From her own words Cornell emerges as a woman of unusual honesty, generosity, and courage, with none of the stylized exhibitionism typical of so many of even the greatest actresses. The author remarks that Cornell has worked so intelligently, so conscientiously at her own art that one can only wish she had held to the same standard of perfection in her choice of plays.
