The article critically appraises the book "Germany Women Go Forward," by Hugh Wiley Puckett. The author has presented a most interesting survey of the woman's movement in Germany against a shifting background of political and economic events. His thesis is that there are three phases in the history of the woman's movement, in Germany as in other modern countries. The first was the phase of the man-made criterion, when the Meal woman approximated what man conceived her to be. This was the period of "Frauenenzdienst," the age of chivalry, as well as the age of the accepted inferiority of women.
