Luis Cabrera is a clever man. Also he has humor. He is one of the outstanding intellectual figures born of the Mexican revolution, with José Vasconcelos, Manuel Gamio, and one or two others. Cabrera brains run to practice more than to philosophical theorizing. He was at the forefront of the revolution from the start. As part of the anniversary celebrations of the revolution, Cabrera contributed to an article in a newspaper and participated in a course of lectures on revolutionary topics. Cabrera gave as his verdict that true revolution, in respect to profitable accomplishment and compliance with its principles and promises, was depressingly in the red. For giving such remarks, he was later arrested. His captors loaded him into an airplane and dumped him across the border into Guatemala, thus distinguishing him by making him the pioneer deportee from his native country by air route.
