The article focuses on the book "Codices Latini Anhiquores. A Palceograpitical Guide to Latin Manuscripts Prior to the Ninth Century," edited by E.A. Lowe. It is not extravagant to say that the publication of this work marks a new era in the study of Latin paleography comparable to that which dawned for Latin epigraphy when the "Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum" appeared. Here for the first time the scholar finds assembled a brief but critical description of the fifteen hundred Latin manuscripts written before, or with any probability before, the year 800. In this first volume, a stately product of the Clarendon Press, the account of each book is accompanied by an excellent collotype reproduction of a characteristic section, or sections, of text and by a select bibliography including a list of facsimiles.
