The article presents a list of fifty outstanding books of the year 1935. Books are related to poetry and belles-letters, fiction, autobiography, memoirs, biography, economics and political economy, foreign affairs, politics, sociology, science and picture books. "Encyclopaedia of the Social Sciences," edited by Edwin R.A. Selignian and Alvin Johnson is a notable work of scholarship, completed this year, which will prove indispensable to the student of sociology and valuable to the intelligent layman. "The State in Theory and Practice," by Harold J. Laski is an interesting analysis of the modern state by a political scientist who combines Marxian realism with a uniquely British insight into the complexities of politics.
