In July 1935, U.S. Senator Huey Pierce Long, entered into a period of political power. In this article, the author records the first month of Long's dictatorship. On July 8, Long in a night speech over the radio, says it is practicable for the state of Louisiana to take over the city of New Orleans, and calls U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt a liar and a faker. On July 9, after receiving several visits from political representatives of Long in secret conferences, two members of New Orleans city commission council, A. Miles Pratt and Joseph P. Skelly, publicly bolt Old Regular Democratic Party, the city's political organization.
