In the Driftway

This is the season, next to Christmas, most favored for family reunions. In wooded groves from Maine to the Middle West to California the clans are gathering. It is many years since the Drifter acted, all at the same time, the roles of first, second, and third cousin, of uncle, nephew, and grandson, but he is sure that the family reunion, though perhaps scarcer than it was, has not changed its character. The younger generation is bored and a little scornful of it all and a little ashamed of some of the people who have turned out to be relatives, but they, too, will come willingly in time.
