It would be difficult to find two productions of "Hamlet" less alike than that with actor John Gielgud at the Empire Theater and the new one with actor Leslie Howard just opened at the Imperial. The author said that he belongs to the minority, by no means insignificant, which found the former a bitter disappointment, and he must say at once that whatever the defects of Howard's performance may be, his conception of the part is infinitely more satisfactory to the author, and the whole play as he has directed it much closer to what the author believe dramatist William Shakespeare himself intended. That his supporting company is much better and the setting of his production less perversely eccentric.
