This article discusses the book "Facing the Tax Problem. A Survey of Taxation in the United States and a Program for the Future." The overwhelming burden of taxation about which people hear so much turns out to be, for instance, only $100 a year for each person in the United States. This includes all forms of federal, state, and local taxation. A few persons in the higher income groups pay very much more, but the majority of Americans pay somewhat less, even when indirect taxes are taken into consideration.
